Let's expand that out just a little bit. So what's true and what's sorta, maybe, kinda? Wix is the best DIY website builder because it's so easy to use. A: Sorta - Wix has been around a long time, it's the first non-Wordpress website builder I used back in 2013 or so. I migrated a Wordpress site over to Wix for my parents of multiples club because we needed a way for lots of different people to be able to edit the site and it was becoming harder and harder to find volunteers with Wordpress skills. Wix is still amazing and is the RIGHT fit for a lot of people, but sometimes Weebly or SquareSpace is better and a lot of it comes down to the cost and controls. We will write more on that soon but for now, take a look at this site. Shopify is what you need to sell your things. A: No, it's not the only thing out there, in fact there are MANY other shop builders and even Wix, Weebly and SquareSpace all have their own online store subscription tiers and options. I personally use Ecwid for my mask and other handmade item selling site. I love their app and that you can add a shop function to pretty much any website that you've built. Ecwid is not fancy and is a bit limited in some ways, but I personally liked that because I needed something easy and quick and didn't want to dust off my HTML brain compartment. (It's VERY dusty in there!) Here's more on the subject of Ecwid vs Shopify. You need an Instagram account with amazing photos and 30 or more hashtags. A: Maybe - It really depends on what you're trying to do. You do REALLY need great photos, but do you need an expensive camera for that? Not really. Brushing up on camera and framing techniques and doing simple things like A) keeping your lens CLEAN and smudge-free and B) Taking photos outside but in the shade can give your photos an instant boost. Here's what Hootsuite has to offer on this topic with this step-by-step guide. We will talk more about those #hashtags soon. You need a blog and should post X times per month. A: Skip to the next point about SEO. SEO is so important and you need it for a successful website. A: Absolutely YES, you need to pay attention to SEO. If you don't know what the letters even mean, you can learn about it here, SEO Made Simple: A Step-By-Step Guide to Rank on Google. Wix, Weebly, and Squarespace make improving SEO a bit easier with their tools as well. Wait...What about that blog that I might need? Well...a blog can help SEO by creating more helpful content which a searcher might be looking for, aka searcher intent. Read more about that up there in that guide linked above. Psst... it's also why I'm writing THIS blog post. I want to help my clients first and foremost, but I also need them to find ME! Facebook/Instagram for Business is essential to social media success. A: Kinda - If you ask me that right now at the beginning of 2021, I would say "ICK! BLECH!" to Business Suite because quite frankly, it's been REALLY glitchy since it's roll out in Fall 2020. Ask anyone who's been trying to create content to post on both Facebook and Instagram (combined scheduled post) and they will say "yeah, I've nearly thrown my phone a few times." So, for now, I DO recommend using Business Suite, but maybe post to IG and FB separately, and if you're creating posts, I think using an actual computer is very helpful. I know it's more work to make the posts separately, but it'll look better and the hashtagging and tagging will work better. As far as Messenger and seeing interactions all in one spot, it's pretty darn nice and that's when I use my phone the most. My good wood-worker Maker friend used the "Messenger Labels" to organize his frantic holiday orders like a CHAMP, and he claimed he had no idea how to do "that Facebook stuff". Google Workplace, Google My Business, Google Drive...Google, Google, Google. A: It's REALLY helpful to jump on the Google train. I mean, there are other ways to manage your emails, files, etc and more power to you to piece together Dropbox, Webmail, Microsoft office, etc. but since I work on a Mac and other people like my clients don't, it's super nice to know that we can share files and such and not have to make yet another account or profile. I added G-Suite Basic for two users for $6.00/yr with Name.com when I purchased my Elle Creative domain. Yep, 6 buckaroos a year for lots of tools and 30G Drive storage per user. Find out more here: https://www.name.com/gsuite Also, setting up Google My Business is absolutely crucial to Local SEO which influences success for service providers. There are certainly other places you want people dropping reviews dependent on the services you might provide, but they won't contribute to your ranking as efficiently as GMB. Well, that's it for this info session. Thanks for joining in. As always if you have questions or comments, send us an email to hello at ellecreative dot online.
